Discover Your Path to Excellence: New Student Programs

Start your journey in the College of Liberal with confidence – and $500

New Programs

The College of Liberal Arts is launching new programs for first year and transfer students that will provide guided activities over several semesters with a promise of a $500 scholarship upon completion.

Eligibility

You are eligible for this program if you are a new first-year or transfer student and you meet the following criteria:

The program has limited capacity. Interested students should apply early.

First-Year Program

For students that have never attended college after high school, our first-year program involves completing a three-semester guide of activities that include:

  • Take IU 174 B with other participants in this program. This is a small class where you can develop friendships and build confidence about navigating college life.
  • Participate in a micro-internship. Micro-internships are short, project-based experiences with employers that help you gain critical skills and build your resume without the time commitment of full-time or part-time internship.
  • Participate in workshops on how to engage with others on campus, tips for good mental health wellbeing, career counseling, and how to negotiate challenges both in and out of the classroom.
  • Create a customized graduation plan that aligns with your interests and incorporates career information.

If you complete all activities on the guide, you will receive a $500 scholarship for your fourth semester at CSU.

Transfer Program

If you have taken college classes after high school and are enrolling at CSU with more than 45 credits, you may be interested in our new transfer program. As a participant, you will complete a two-semester guide of activities that include:

  • Take a very small group study class (12 students or less) with other participants in the program. The course will be taught by a faculty mentor.
  • Participate in a research event connected to your major.
  • Participate in two workshops on health and wellness and how to engage.
  • Receive individual career counseling.
  • Create a customized graduation plan that aligns with career counseling.

If you complete all the activities on the guide, you will receive a $500 scholarship for your third semester at CSU.

Testimonials about IU 174 B Seminar Course

“This class has taught me to learn about myself in detail and my ego’s development through my life. I love this class, and it is my favorite one I attend at CSU!”

“It is an incredibly supportive environment and even on the first day of class we talked about the things no one usually talks about, like the fear of speaking up and voicing your opinion. This class helps remind you that no thoughts you have are stupid or an inconvenience; everything you bring to the table is supporting the environment and is important.”
